Hi, I'm Rachael Kool. I'm a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in Grand Rapids, MI and I counsel individuals (children, teens and adults), couples, and families. I have been counseling in a private practice setting for 10 years and have always enjoyed working with people, understanding where they have come from and where they are hoping to go. I am married and have four children, which leads to pretty adventurous and challenging days. I hope I will get a chance to hear from you so I can have a chance to walk along side you, meet you where you are at, and help you figure out how to change in order to function better.
I believe that YOU are the expert of you. Making sure I understand your values and perspective of the world is very important to me in order to make sure that I can help you find ways to achieve change and success in a way that will work the best for the way you function. I do this by utilizing a lot of different counseling theories and techniques. I use an eclectic type of counseling theories, such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Rational-Emotive Behavior therapy, Transactional Analysis, Solutions Focused Therapy, Family systems, and Person-Centered. I tend to come to session prepared with some exercises, games or education that may be helpful for our treatment goals but will always see if there is something that you have brought to session to discuss first.
Making sure you feel comfortable in session, as well as in the office in general, is important to me so I strive to stay on time so as to respect your time and commitment to pursuing therapy with me. Your financial situation is important to me as well so making sure there is no misunderstanding about the cost of sessions and how they will be paid for. Please keep in mind it is your responsibility to make sure your services are paid for. I just want to help ease the stress of navigating insurance companies as I know they can be quite confusing and intimidating at times.
